a secret you can use

nothing eases the pain
of consistent failure
of being broken
in a manner of your own choosing
because it’s the only choice we get
the lies just keep coming
each half as interesting than the last
and somehow twice as damaging

life seems to keep us alive
by distracting us from suicide
just long enough
in the meantime
the small things kill you
in installments in increments
always the small things
like a parking ticket
flapping on the windshield
or pouring your cereal
but having no milk

an accumulation of seemingly
inconsequential fuck ups
that lead to a rabbit hole
of self doubt
of self blame
you wonder if you aren’t some alien
stranded far from a home
you’ve never seen
nothing makes sense
you can do as your told
and still be wrecked
by the brutal efficiency of it all

the only solution
lies on the edge of the shore
where you can convince yourself
that the ocean is rushing to greet you
like a prodigal son
and the ocean could take you
if you were worth the taking
but the ocean just doesn’t give a fuck about you
but it would be good to be worthy one day
so crouch down in the sand
look out into the horizon
and see if you can steal
a secret you can use
