Very happy to share this… i first met T.J. English on Facebook… T.J. English is the NY Times bestselling author of The Westies, Paddy Whacked, Havana Nocturne, Born To Kill and The Savage City. His latest book is Whitey’s Payback. He’s also written for television shows NYPD Blue and Homicide where he won the Humanitas Prize. Check out his Facebook Page to keep up with him and his work.

i reached out to T.J. on Facebook after i had gotten his book The Savage City after hearing him talk about it on the radio. The Savage City is an amazing book capturing the zeitgeist of New York City in the 1960’s and 70’s and connecting three seemingly disconnected stories to create a compassionate portrait of racial strife in a broken city. We talked a few times via Facebook about the connections between the anti-imperialist struggles in Ireland and Puerto Rico and about the old school daze of NYC. i sent him a DVD of MACHETERO to see what he thought and i’m both very humbled and very proud to share what he had to say here…

“Finally got around to seeing MACHETERO, a film by Vagabond Beaumont, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Made on a miniscule budget, the movie is filled with ideas and ambition and driven by a sharp-focused POV. Both the aesthetic and politics of this experimental film are thought-provoking and uncompromising. Many people, in the bluster of youth, talk about doing work of this caliber, very few have the dedication and discipline to pull it off… Much respect.” – T.J. English

You can watch MACHETERO on Vimeo On Demand on your TV, Computer, Tablet or Phone.
